Other bespoke projects

Not every project fits an existing category. Sometimes a design calls for an unconventional construction, an unusual material or a combination of techniques developed specifically for that project. Assignments like these demonstrate the true versatility of the bookbinding craft.

For projects beyond standard categories

The projects on this page vary widely, from books with cardboard pages and unusual binding methods to displays, presentation objects, cards and bespoke constructions.

What these productions have in common is that they originate from a client’s specific request rather than from a standard product.

Bespoke production starts with the design

Many exceptional productions begin with an idea from a designer, publisher, museum or brand that does not readily fit existing production methods.

By combining different techniques, materials and constructions, we create solutions that suit the design both technically and visually. These may use binding methods such as Singer sewing or pamphlet stitch, as well as unconventional materials, die-cut shapes, displays or bespoke presentation solutions.

From book to presentation object

The possibilities are not limited to books. Cards, displays, presentation materials, packaging and other objects can be produced with the same attention to materials, finishing and construction.

Many of the projects on this page are unique and developed specifically for a single client or application. This bespoke approach is a central part of Boekbinderij Rietveld’s work.
